SLOJD - SCANDINAVIAN WOODCRAFT SKILLS & TECHNIQUE
Â
A comprehensive two day residential course with full-time green woodworker Sharif Adams, exploring traditional carving techniques from Scandinavia. Using primarily just two tools; the axe and the knife, tools which humans have used for thousands of years, you will be guided through three projects over the two days. The focus of the course will be on how to use the tools safely and efficiently, providing you with a solid foundation for further practice at home.
Â
You will learn about the different properties of a variety of timbers before harvesting material directly from the woods at Trill farm. Over the two days you will carve a Scandinavian style butter knife, a coat hook and a cooking spoon, exploring the fundamental principles of carving wood with edge-tools. Additionally you will learn how to sharpen and care for the tools and how to properly season and finish your wooden ware with natural curing oils.
Â
This course is suitable for beginners and those wanting to develop their woodworking skills. We aim to be working outside (weather dependent) and foraging for our raw materials so please bring appropriate clothing for the British weather; wellies are preferable to boots as some areas of the farm can become very muddy.
