Pole Lathe Bowl Turning
Turning a wooden bowl on a pole lathe requires a fair amount of energy, co-ordination, dexterity and skill. Becoming adept requires lots of practice, but if you are new to the craft I can get you started with a one or two day introduction course. We'll begin by selecting a suitable log from which to rough out a bowl blank using an axe and then move on to turning the bowl on the lathe.
If you have been turning bowls for some time but still find specific parts of the process a challenge, (undercutting the core or getting a clean finish from the tools for example) I can help move you forward. I can also guide you through more advanced projects such as turning bowls with handles, quaich turning, locking lidded boxes or turning end-grain drinking vessels.
A one to one course costs £180 (one day). Get in touch to book a date.
A group bowl turning course costs £120 per person. Minimum 2, maximum 4 (one day).
Demo days also available to those interested in how the lathe works. Get in touch for more details. (Usually half a day).
